Exploring the Neuroscience of Transformation
Dr. Irena O’Brien

Change isn’t about willpower—it’s about how the brain actually works. We often think people resist change, but research shows it’s not the change itself—it’s the pressure and fear that come with it. In this keynote, we’ll explore the science behind transformation, uncovering what truly drives lasting change. You’ll learn how to help clients shift their mindset, break through resistance, and build habits that stick. With practical, research- backed strategies, this session will challenge the way you think about change and give you the tools to make transformation feel natural, not forced.
Concurrent Sessions
The Aperture of Mastery
Facilitator: Vanessa PaesaniDescription:
As coaches progress in their craft, they often develop an extraordinary capacity for presence—an ability to attune to the moment and open themselves to the full spectrum of what is available in the universe. This workshop draws on findings from my Master’s thesis research (MA in Executive and Organizational Coaching, Royal Roads University), which explores the experiences of ICF Master Certified Coaches (MCCs) and uncovers how they cultivate and embody presence as a cornerstone of their mastery. Through in-depth interviews and qualitative analysis, this research reveals that mastery in coaching is not merely a matter of skill development but also a profound shift in how coaches relate to themselves, their clients, and the world around them. This shift can be likened to the aperture of a camera lens—expanding to encompass greater awareness, wisdom, and connection.OR
Group Coaching Supervision: Fostering Deeper Coaching Relationships
Facilitator: Brian DugganDescription:
This 90-minute interactive workshop will engage participants in practice, discussion and reflection on the possibilities for personal growth as a coach. With the ‘client’ as the focus, coaching supervision is intended to be a time for coaches to reflect, typically through presenting their actual client scenarios, on the relationships, personal dynamics, social context, coaching ethics and possible areas of personal and professional development that emerge from the discussion. The workshop will include a demonstration of group coaching supervision that will create awareness for participants and an opportunity to witness and reflect on their own growth as coaches and possibilities to continue the development of their coaching mindset. The ICF has published a Coaching Supervision Competency Model that presents a solid foundation for our reflection on the value of coaching supervision in the coaching profession. This model will be an integral part of the workshop.
