Pat Rothenberger: ICF Atlantic Launches Pro-Bono Coaching Initiative

Atlantic Canada’s charter chapter of the International Coaching Federation (ICF), the foremost global organization for professional coaching, has launched a pro bono coaching initiative for non-profit organizations in Atlantic Canada. ICF Atlantic is connecting groups throughout the Atlantic provinces with Certified Coaches. The goal is that the volunteers’ expertise will benefit the people contributing to these organizations and give them new tools to continue serving their communities.

Coaching, as the ICF defines it, is the process of collaborating with clients to maximize their unique professional, creative, and personal potential. Working with a coach can reveal new and unexplored paths to productivity and leadership, helping individuals and organizations alike on the road to success.

“Generosity is its own reward,” explains Susan Power, ICF Atlantic’s president. A leadership coach based in Halifax at PowerUp Leadership, Power recognizes the connection between professional coaching and supporting the surrounding community: “Providing Pro Bono coaching to a community of ‘givers’ seems congruent with ICF's vision and mission.”
